Kellogg School of Management

Kellogg alumni hold leadership positions in government, corporate, nonprofit, and academic institutions around the globe. The school has a particularly strong finance program. Also, many business leaders regard Kellogg’s marketing program as being the best in the nation. Professor Philip Kotler – author of one of the most widely used marketing books in MBA programs – is lauded as a top international marketing guru.

Kellogg has a strong focus on leadership development. MBA students hone their leadership skills with team class projects and by joining in the school’s clubs, conferences, and lecture series. Teamwork and ethical decision making are emphasized early in the MBA curriculum with Kellogg’s Leadership in Organizations course.

Peer leadership flourishes at the school. During the second year of the program, MBA students participate in the Kellogg Student Association’s admissions committee, reading incoming applications and interviewing applicants. Finance Club members assist with interview preparation for corporate finance positions and coordinate programs in all of Kellogg’s finance-related clubs. The spirit of community service is alive with Kellogg’s Business with a Heart club, which hosts blood drives, school tutoring, and volunteering locally at senior centers, children’s organizations and schools, libraries, and the local YMCA.

Each application to Kellogg is examined by at least three Admissions Office staff members. In this way each application undergoes a “holistic” evaluation, which takes into account an applicant’s intellectual ability, his or her academic and work record, writing skills and letters of recommendation. Admissions staff will also assess whether the applicant is team-oriented, and how well the student will fit into Kellogg’s culture. Successful applicants generally have five years of work experience. The school does not accept students straight out of undergraduate school, unless they already have quality, full-time work experience.
