The McCombs MBA program is built around four key pillars. The first is the academic foundation, which means rigorous study of the basics combined with specialization in a given field. The second is enhancing leadership skills by creating direct contact between students and industry. The third pillar is creating community, through team projects, study groups, and participation in professional and social organizations. The Career Services office helps students establish their fourth pillar – identifying and mapping out a viable career plan.

One of McCombs’ unique features is the PLUS program, which affords students the opportunity to use their knowledge for real-world problem solving through an evolving series of micro-consulting projects, services, and workshops. MBA students also work with communication and executive coaches to strengthen and refine their business personas.

Students have leeway to be innovative in establishing programs and competitions. Some examples of these are the Moot Corp, a new-venture competition that is the longest-running contest of its type nationwide. McCombs’ MBA Investment Fund gives students a first-hand experience at running a mutual fund. With the Internet Economy Indicator, a collaboration between Cisco and McComb students, participants get real-time experience calculating the Internet’s role in job growth and revenue.

McCombs offers global exposure through international exchange programs and Global Connections Study Tours, which include academic classes and a two-week business trip. Students may choose a semester abroad from a prestigious roster of 20 international schools in countries like Australia, Peru, Turkey and Finland.

When it comes to admissions, McCombs’ admissions committee first evaluates candidates on their potential for leadership, academic success and professional growth. McCombs will add weight to applicants who can demonstrate their motivation and strength of character through community, public, or military service. Travel experiences, hobbies, special abilities, and any honors and recognition that you have earned will be important to include in your application. The admissions office advises you to think about your story and show that you really know yourself.
